Co-location

Siting battery storage together with generation — most commonly solar-plus-BESS or wind-plus-BESS — behind a shared grid connection.

Co-locating storage with generation lets two assets share one grid connection, one set of land rights and much of the balance-of-plant cost. The battery can absorb output that would otherwise be curtailed or exported at weak prices, and shift it into stronger hours.

The complexity is contractual and metering-level: how import and export rights are shared, how the PPA treats power that flows through the battery, and how renewable certificates are handled for charged-then-discharged energy all need explicit structuring.
