Firm Frequency Response (FFR)

A legacy GB frequency response service, now largely superseded by the dynamic suite (Dynamic Containment, Moderation and Regulation).

Firm Frequency Response was for years the main route for providers — batteries in particular — to sell frequency response to the system operator, procured through monthly tenders.

It has been largely superseded by the dynamic response suite procured through daily auctions. The term still appears in older revenue models and legacy contracts, which is worth checking when reviewing historical BESS business cases.
